Irregular periods, abdominal pain after started having sex.

Resolved question:
Hi! I am a woman, never given birth (but would still want to), turned 40 (5 months ago).

6 years ago had my only surgery after early miscarriage (cleaning of uterus). Last 6 years not frequently intimate, renewed regular sexual activeness 5 months ago. Had regular periods, every 25-27 days, flow was usual. Have used tampons during periods. Usually the flow includes very small clotting during heavier days.

This January experienced abnormal symptoms and period. The expected period started 5 days earlier (on 31st December) and flow was lesser than usual and ended in couple of days. I started gaining weight, had mild nausea, dizziness, mildly sore breasts and occasional almost nonexistent brown spotting. The pregnancy tests were negative (last on 9th of January). There were no stomach aches or pains but I could "feel" the uterus (if that makes sense). On 17th of January I experienced salmon pink mild bleeding (usually wine red color), that continued as spotting the next couple of days. As I had an earlier reservation to gynaecologist, decided to wait until that. Had the visit 2 days ago, after the check she showed me the polype that she had removed during the check. I was told to make a blood test in middle of my next period. When I left doctor's I felt strong nausea and dizziness and have had medium heavy flow with small clots. I have used tampons as usual for the flow as there was no specific advise from the doctor. This morning had a half-thumb size jelly-like clot coming out and the flow has started to decrease. Am still feeling the abdominal region but no sharp or strong pain. I am still confused whether this is the period or is it just the stagnant blood coming out after the polype had been removed? Should I wait for next week when the normal period was supposed to begin or should I do the blood test now? Can I have sexual intercourse? How long will it take until my periods get back to normal? Could all this be a sign of something serious? Have a new appointment next month. As am an expat this was my first visit to this doctor.

Thank you very much for your answer!

Hello
Thanks for posting your query at DoctorSpring.com
Firstly I wish to understand a few things.
Polyps generally cannot be removed during a normal check up.
It requires proper anesthesia and a proper surgery.
Next if the polyp was just hanging out, and ' dropped ' into the doctor's hands ( rarely happens ), then it should have been sent promptly for biopsy ( histopathology ).
Was this done ?
Thirdly, what blood test are you asked to have in the middle of the next period ????
I need to know that ?
Regarding your other questions -
1.THis is most probably residual blood coming out after the polyp removal.
2. Well - what blood test was advised ? Only if I know what it was, can I tell you when to do it.
3. Yes, sexual activity should not be an issue unless intercourse noticeably worsens the bleeding.
4. YOu need to have a workup to know how long it will take to normalize your cycles and whether this is something more serious.
The workup is listed below -
Internal exam ( per vaginum and per speculum ) by a Specialist OB - GYN.
Pap smear
Pelvic transvaginal ultrasound scan.
Hormonal levels - FSH, LH, TSH .
Biopsy of the ' polyp ' removed.
All the best
Please feel free to discuss further.
Regards.
