Is it possible to have negative PREGNANCY TEST with delayed period?

Hi I have had my last period for only 4 days I normally have it for 7 days I also am late 4 days for my period this month 4 days and I have a pain in my left ovary running down my leg I have had a negative pregnancy blood test. I am 24 I had a miscarriage last year I'm just really worried. Is it possible to have a negative blood test for pregnancy? The only other symptom I have is backache

I understand your concern.



A negative blood test essentially rules out pregnancy, it is quite reliable.



Please get a pelvic transvaginal ultrasound scan done too - it would rule out any pathology in the uterus or ovaries.



Stress, exercise, travelling, late nights, weight changes, hormonal medications, alcohol, smoking - lots of factors can result in menstrual delay.



You should also get hormonal levels - FSH, LH, TSH, Prolactin, OGTT, DHEAS, Free testosterone, to rule out factors like hypothyroidism and polycystic ovarian disease.
