Itching and swelling anus- A chance of genital herpes

Resolved question:

Hello doctor, I am a 27 years old female. I am sexually very active. I am suffering from a frustrating situation, which I need some advice of. I used to have sex with multiple partners and mostly it was unprotected sex. I fear, I had sex with someone who was suspected to have genital herpes. But I am not experiencing any known symptoms of herpes. However, recently I started getting a swelling and reddening feeling around my anal area. It is not limited with that. I also feel itching and started getting some lesions or bumps in that area.  But there are no specific symptoms in or near my vagina. Anyway the thought of that unprotected sex makes me feel worried. I don’t know whether I have contracted with herpes. Please help.

It is unfortunate to know that you are facing an embarrassing situation. Anyway it is more unfortunate that signs and symptoms of herpes vary from person to person. In many people, there are no symptoms seen after getting infected. Symptoms include what you have mentioned too. Pain, itching, swelling of genital areas begin after a few weeks from getting contracted with the virus. After these, small bumps as you told appear. Those bumps become matured in a few days and rupture by themselves, oozing out blood and pus. But it will heal up by itself, forming scabs. It is highly recommended that you must get immediate medical care as soon as possible if you suspect that you have got genital herpes. However, a complete cure cannot be attained medically. Your doctor can help you with easing out problems caused by HSV. Antiviral medications are available, which help to heal the sores soon. Also, it will help in easing out severity of the ulcers. Hope my answer helps. Best wishes.
