Multiple Pregnancy.

Resolved question:
We are currently 6 weeks pregnant via IVF. This is our 3 round, first time our one embryo split three times and we had a miscarriage at 9 weeks. Second time our one embryo took and we had our daughter. The first time our HCG levels were high, not crazy high but high. With our daughter they were normal range. Now with this one they are high again. @16 days after conception the number was 278, then 46 hours later it was 813. Both much higher than the last two times. Should we be prepared it could be twins or triplets again?? Or do the numbers not mean anything? Our clinic did tell us prior that they had a high number of identical twins lately, but never said how many was high.

Hello,
Thanks for writing to DoctorSpring.com with your health concern.

The numbers are not high enough to conclusively pinpoint at a twin pregnancy or multiple pregnancy.
They are just progressing well, that is all that can be said, and they are well within the normal range.

Of course, with IVF, you should be prepared for the eventuality of a multiple gestation, but the only conclusive way to know that is to have a transvaginal ultrasound scan.
That is the only reliable way to diagnose this.
Do not read much into the numbers either ways.

All the best. Would be glad to answer any follow-up queries.
Take care.
