Perimenopause and no period for months

Resolved question:
Hi

I'm a healthy 47 year old woman. I haven't had a period in over 3 months. I went to my OB for a work up. He did bloodwork and a TSV ultrasound. Results are as follows:
FSH - 58.5
Estradiol - 24
LH - 40
U/s showed: Uterine lining 3-4mm, one small fibroid and a cyst
Other than an occasional hotflash, I feel fine. I do not want to start HRT but he did recommend Provera to induce my period because he said when my period does come it will be very heavy. Not sure this is what I want to take and looking for some advice. I will say before this lack of menses, I was having super heavy periods, clotting which caused me to become very anemic. My hemoglobin and ferritin are back in the normal range.

Thanks

Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
Your reports show that you are peri menopausal.
If you are asymptomatic, there is no need to start HRT at all.
However, your history is suggestive of DUB - dysfunctional uterine bleeding.
This condition is apt to worsen during menopausal transition, hence if you take cyclical progesterone ( Provera as he suggested ), for a few months, then you would not experience such heavy periods / irregular cycles.
It would sort of regulate your cycles, and is not HRT in the technical sense.
Another option is to wait and watch, take no drugs, and if the heavy periods resume, you can then opt to start Provera.
All the best.
Please feel free to ask for further clarifications.
