Pressure under ribs with normal SONOGERAPHY, CT, COLONOSCOPY.

Resolved question:
Hello!

I am struggling again with a mild pressure like feeling under the left rib, more or less aligned with the breast. It can be felt when sitting, much less when lying down and basicly not at all when moving or standing.

The feeling itself is not as a pain but very mild pressure. Sometimes it also seems to "travel". It is never above the rib below the breast but sometimes can be felt also further down. It is nothing one can not live with but seems to be persistent. It does not wake me up at night or anything, just is a bit uncomfortable and creates anxiety.

I had the same situation last yeay and latest this year in the spring/summer when it disappeared for a while. Then they did me sonography (may), CT (july), gastroscopy (may) and colonoscopy (july). All of them came back fine. Gastroscopy found a lot of mucus though. General understanding was that this is an irritable bowel syndrome as it is often accompanied with diarrhea as well. Bloodwork was OK too (latest in october).

I am 40 years old, overweight but do not smoke nor use excessive alcohol. My father died of stomach cancer (probably due to heavy drinking and smoking) hence I am worried about this. Could this mild pressure be caused of IBS or does it indicate something serious e..g cancer?

There are no accompaning symptoms that I could complain about though. Just this mild pressure.

With kind regards,
Kaido

Hi Kaido,
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com
We discussed about your symptoms earlier in April and May this year.
As said earlier you have only signs and symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome.
The discomfort you feel is probably be due to excess intestinal gas.
It is unlikely that you have stomach cancer as all the test including endoscopies and CT scan all came out as normal only.
I would advise you to take librax, probiotics and prilosec for relief.
Regards.

Hi again! They did yesterday some tests as well, please find attached results. The WBC seems to be high and the h.pylori is several times above the limit. Could this be the cause of this pressure like feeling? I had this treated like seven years ago but how come it has returned now, is this possible or is this now some kind of a really bad sign? Yesterday I forgot to mention you that last time in the spring, the diagnosis they gave out was superficial gastritis. Kaido

Hello Kaido,
Thanks for getting back to me with more information and more questions.
Yes as per the report you are having Helicobacter pylori infection and this could be reason for your symptoms.
Though you got treated 7 years, this infection can recur. No this is not a bad sign.
You need another course of anti H.pylori treatment.
After the treatment you can either get a breath test or a stool test done to confirm the eradication of this infection.
I hope that answers your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr.R.K.
