Raised SGOT levels in blood with high CHOLESTEROL. CRESTOR.

Resolved question:
Around 3 years old patientago i was diagnosed withhigh levels of cholesterol, and at the time it was around 280-300. My doctor recommended i take crestor 20mg and i took it for a while and then realized my cholesterol when down significantly but my liver was getting affected. He recommended i stop crestor and start using Lipitor 10mg. Ever since, I have been on that medicine continuously, my levels maintained at 200 and now in my latest testit appeared that my SGOT levels and other levels have gone up a lot.

Just around a month ago, a new doctor told me that i should stop the medicine to give my liver a break and i did that and then after that i was taking the medicine irregularly, 2 days no meds and one day i take it. I am worried about my liver and not sure what to do

I attached a picture of my latest test results

Hello,
Thanks for posting your query at DoctorSpring.com
I am Dr.R.K and I am pleased to assist you.
Your liver enzymes and the cholesterol are only mildly elevated which I consider insignificant.
Since you do not know about your liver status before taking the medication for high cholesterol, It is difficult to say whether the raise in liver enzymes can be attributed to the cholesterol medication.
A few other tests need to be done to rule out common causes and that includes tests for hep B and hep C and an ultrasound scan of the abdomen to rule out fatty liver disease.
You can stop the cholesterol medications as the cholesterol level is only mildly elevated. It can be controlled with dietary modification and exercise. You need to avoid fatty/oily food. Do 30 minutes of brisk walking everyday.
Check your blood glucose also.
I hope that answers your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr.R.K.

Thank you doctor for the infomation,
My levels before were about 10 points lower (about one or two points higher than the normal level)
Should I just go ahead and finish of the pack of Liptor that I am currently on (I have around half the pack left) and then stop for a month? That way I will do more excersize and try to modify my diet to avoid fatty foods

Hello,
Yes you can go ahead and finish off the pack.
However even if you don't take Lipitor any further, it won't make much of a difference.
What you really need is good exercise and proper diet. You're only 26, and that is the best way to go about it.
Once you start working out, and exercise, you can recheck the liver values after a month and update me.
Besides that also get a hepatitis panel screening test done, along with Ultrasound Abdomen. Once you do, you can review the reports with me.
Regards.

my cholesterol is mainly genetic, i usually watch out for what I eat and am definetly not over weight, on the contrary I only weigh 69 kgs

Hello,
Yeah at times with a history of cholesterol in the family, some patients are more susceptible and have this problem since a very young age. But the good thing is your cholesterol is fine now.
I asked you to avoid oily or fatty food, so that there is no further strain on the liver. That will also help in keeping the cholesterol values down.
Once you have the reports, get back to me and i will guide you further.
Regards.
