Stomach pain, vomiting, diarrhea after eating chicken.

Resolved question:
My husband started with severe stomach pain four days ago. He had vomiting, then diarrhea and the painful phase lasted about 12 hours. Then nausea and less vomiting and some diarrhea. He has now eaten only applesauce and drinks water and Gatorade. Each time he drinks or eats he gets intense cramping pain and feels like he has to use the restroom and small amount of something and gas comes out. The pain then subsides. No more vomiting or nausea. He was vegetarian for 8 months and the night before this started he ate chicken at a restaurant. We both ate the same thing. The pain started the next day when he was eating a protein bar. Should we proceed with more food or still hold off on eating?

Hello,
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com
I understand your concern.
Your husband seems to have developed acute gastroenteritis and needs antibiotic therapy. Severe cramping, as well as diarrhea and vomiting, are all symptoms of an infection.
He should follow a bland diet as of now, and make sure that he is drinking enough water. Also, in addition, a course of Tab. Ciprofloxacin 500 mg twice daily for 3 days will be helpful. If he's too gassy, then Simethicone ( Gas-X ) can be given for relief. He should also take probiotic capsules 2 daily for 3 days till the infection is controlled.
Feel free to discuss further,
Regards.
