Swelling in toe after removing INGROWN TOENAIL. INFECTION?

Resolved question:
Last week I had infected ingrown toenail, which I was able to remove at home (Also nail fungus on that nail). It hurt while I was trimming it but toe feels fine now and no longer red or sore.

Starting a day or two before I dealt with the ingrown toenail, the top and side of that foot became swollen and sore. It has remained swollen and sore since I dealt with toenail - past four days.

I didn't think the swollen foot could be connected to the toenail, but just realized it might be. Since toe seems fine now, is it safe to wait to see if swelling goes down? Or is this a potential spreading infection that should be seen asap?

Thank you!

Hi,
Thank you for posting your query at DoctorSpring.com

For Ingrowing Toe Nail, I prefer to remove the entire nail under local anaesthesia.
If you have removed the nail completely, the swelling comes down gradually. If it is red and not regressing even after complete nail removal, you should take Antibiotic like Cefuroxime tablet along with Anti inflammatory tablet. It will come down.
Nothing to worry.
Hope I answered your query. If you have any questions, I will clarify further. If possible please attach the pic of the toe.

Wish you good health.
Regards
