Throat pain, running nose with EPITHELIAL CELLS in SPUTUM.

Resolved question:
Patient Name: Dr.K.B.Misra
Age: 82 yrs
Gender:Male
Other Remarks: Pacemaker Implanted and also diabetic.

It has started since 9th August and today is 11th August. Since 2 days he has a congestion in chest.

Medicine takes so far: Amoxcyllin-500mg (9th& 10th )
Ceftum-500mg (11th
Had done a random Sputum test and results are attached.

Pain in throat and center of chest, running nose. Sputum is coming and he is coughing. Fever is also there however we had

not measured. He is himself a doctor and believes it is upper respiratory tract infection.

Temperature reading since morning:
11/08/2014:11am;101Celcius
11/08/2014;7:30pm;100.4Celcius

It is rainy season here however it is not raining too much here. We protect us from mosquito using mosquito repellant coil

regularly. We live in Greater Noida UP.

We prefer an indian doctor because he would be well versed with situations and consumption of Antibiotics.
Our question is what should be our next step. or probably which medication should be taken.

Hello.
Thank you for posting your query at DoctorSpring.com
I understand your concern.
Throat pain coupled with fever and sputum and also chest congestion points towards respiratory tract infection as you rightly said.
Even his reports indicate a bacterial infection.
It is good to know that he is a doctor too. I will advise he continues with Ceftum 500 mg twice daily 1-0-1 for 7 days. For his throat pain he needs saline water gargling, 3-4 times a day. Along with that since he also has a lot of chest congestion, i will advise Tab. Montelukast-Levocet ( Montek-LC) combination, once at bed time. That will also help in relieving the congestion. It should be taken at bed time, since it can make the patient slightly drowsy.
In case there is fever, then OTC Paracetamol DOLO 650 can be given SOS.
In my opinion, let him continue the medicine properly for 2 days and then if it doesn't settle, then he can get a Chest X-RAY done.
I strongly recommend you don't change the antibiotic again because it can lead to resistance causing more harm.
Hope this was helpful,
Regards.
