Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole dosage for UTI

Resolved question:
I AM ON VACTATION IN THE VIRGIN ISLANDS. I GOT A UTI. THE NURSE SAID I SHOULD TAKE TRIMETHOPRIN-SULFAMTHOXAZOLE. HOW MANY MILLAGRAMS SHOULD I BE TAKING? AND FOR HOW LONG?

I assume that you are an otherwise healthy individual with no medication allergies and a normal body weight.
In that case the dose will be :

Oral double-strength tablet (Bactrim DS or Seprta DS) – 160 mg TMP (Trimethoprim) /800 mg SMX (sulfamethoxazole)
-- to be taken twice a day.

(Or two single strength tablets 80mg TMP / 400mg SMX twice a day).

Drink Plenty of water.
