Unable to conceive for months. Am I not ovulating?

Resolved question:
My husband and I have been trying to conceive our second child for 5 months now with no progress. I am beginning to worry I am not ovulating...I am 30 years old and I think I have regular periods (at least I bleed about the same time monthly). However, I used an ovulation kit this month as well as tracked basil body temp, and both didn't confirm ovulation. I am pretty sure I may not have ovulated in past months too. Should I make an appointment with my OBGYN? Is it common for women my age to have anovulation? I had my regular pap smear back in Aug 2014 and everything was normal.  I also have already had one child who was conceived in 2 months.

Hello
Thanks for your query at DoctorSpring.com. I understand your concern.
With regular cycles, the odds are that you are ovulating regularly.
Ovulation predictor kits and the basal body temperature - both are quite unreliable for truly monitoring ovulation.
Generally no investigations are suggested until you have tried unsuccessfully to conceive for a year.
But at 30, you can get more aggressive sooner too.
Yes, you can consult your OB - GYN.
Two basic things should be checked.
One - your husband's semen analysis.
Second, your ovulation.
This is best tracked through follicular monitoring ( FM ).
FM involves serial scanning of the uterus and ovaries throughout your menstrual cycle, to monitor the growth of the egg, and then to see the egg rupture ( ovulation ) directly on the scan.
Please get this done.
I hope you are taking regular folic acid supplements.
All the best
Please feel free to discuss further.
