We have visited our physician and have been referred to fertility clinic. I have got all my tests done they came out clean. My husband's semen analysis was also done. I request to explain the report for me. The results are:

Hello, thanks for writing to us. The most important part of the male fertility investigation is the semen analysis, and method and timing of sample collection is equally important. The best specimen is the one obtained by masturbation in the vicinity of the laboratory, because this assures its freshness. There is another method of collection of the semen sample which involves the collection into a condom, this should not be encouraged as the condom might contain some chemicals, that can interfere, giving false readings. Also the time lag between the sample collection and the sample test can give false reading. Coming to the semen analysis report you have provided, the volume of the semen is normal, the pH is within normal range. The normal range of semen volume is 3-5.5 ml the average is 3.7 ml. The number of sperms in a healthy individual ranges from 60 to 120 million per milliliter, but it is low in your husband's case ( there are only 17 million/ml) which is described as oligospermia (less sperms). Motility describes the ability of the sperm to move a certain distance and the standard, falling between 80% -90% on an average, 80% motility is expected in a normal semen specimen. The sperm after ejaculation has to travel all the way from the vagina to the tube to reach the ovum. This motility assures the delivery of sperm to the ovum for their union. The process of ovum combining with sperm is called fertilization and this makes the woman get pregnant. In a nut shell the semen analysis report can be read as -below normal sperm count and less motile. You need to consult your physician to diagnose the cause of the abnormal report. Hope this helps.
