WEAKNESS in arms after treating ACUTTE BRONCHITIS with ANTIBIOTICS.

Resolved question:
Been having a lot of weekness in arms and legs. 33/m had acute bronchitis 3 weeks back. Was given antibiotics and inhaler. Took care of it. 1 week after started having weekness in arms and legs. Been given anti-inflammatory meds, pain med, for pain in my neck, thramadol, now prednisone. Now weekness in the legs geting worse. Might be from dehydration. Any suggestion on more serious condition. Doctors not quite given me good solution yet. All test seem to be good.

Hello,

Thank you for choosing DoctorSpring.

My apologies in the delay in replying. I understand your main concern is now weakness. Weakness is a tricky thing in neurology. Real neurological weakness requires urgent attention, while generalised weakness like from fatigue, dehydration can be managed easily.

I need some additional information from you which will help me in identifying the cause of the weakness. You can reply as a followup.

1. Do you have any fever now ?
2. Do you have any trouble in passing urine or motion ?
3. Do you find it difficult to climb stairs ? as in not able to lift up your legs ?
4. Do you find it hard to stand up from a sitting position ?
5. Any feeling of loss of grip in the foot ?
6. Are you able to lift up your hands over head ?

Waiting for your reply
Thank you

Hello ,
In that case with reasonable certainty I can say that there is no neurological weakness. However you need to be careful. I would recommend taking an electrolyte solutions which is available OTC .Stay hydrated and take good nutritious food. Do not take any other medications which are not recommended by your Physician.
This weakness could be a post viral fatigue,

If this uneasiness is persisting beyond 24 hours I would recommend a few blood tests, which should include Haemoglobin levels and electrolytes. You should also reconsider the inhaler if you are still on it. The Prednisolone I feel is not really necessary. Anyway since you started it taper down and stop according to your Doctors guidelines.

Do keep me posted. I will be happy to follow it up

Dear doctor. I was admitted to the emergency room on 9/1 and was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Blood sugar was 560. I am still having weakness in the legs and a little pressure in the throat but I've mannaged to drop my sugar level down to about 150. Nurses say it will be a couple of weeks before my legs start feeling normal again. Now just dealing with this diabetes. Going to try reverse this. Losing weight going on a healthy diet and gonna take care of my sugar levels. Been doing a lot of research since I was diagnosed and I might still have a fighting chance. Just want to thank you for your concern in my health.

Hello,

Thank you for the update. Sorry to hear that, but I am glad that the high blood sugar level was detected before resulting in any complications. Hyperglycaemia (high blood sugar) could cause the above mentioned symptoms. I assume your Doctors have done a comprehensive examination and blood tests.
Glad to know that you are on tract and determined to take care of your health. Diabetes can be very well controlled. I assume you are on Medications - Insulin. Diet and exercise are important part of it, but Insulin therapy is mainstay. Take care to start exercise in incremental steps only. Over excersion can lead on to hypoglycaemia. Getting a Home glucometer will be a good idea. Periodically measure blood sugar values and HbA1C.

If you have specific queries please feel free to ask
Wish you good health
