Hello,

Thanks for asking your query at DoctorSpring.

This is a brief description of "prominent lymphoid follicles with active germinal centers" and is describing lymphoid hyperplasia. This normally happens when you are fighting an infection and your lymph nodes start producing more cells, tissue, and lymphocytes to help rid the infection.

If you can give me more details of your medical history I can give you a better answer of what this means for you. How old are you and how is your general health? Do you have any symptoms? What tests have you gotten done? Where is the lymph tissue growth if there is any?

With a little more information I may be able to help clear you concerns. Also, please do ask if you have any further questions. Take care.

I had stomach pain and blood in stool so i did a colonoscopy ....My biopsies from the terminal ileum show chronic inflammation with prominent lymphoid follicles immunohistochemical staining for cd10 , BCL2 and Ki 67 confirms the lymphod follicles to be reactive in nature there is no evidence of neoplasia

Hello,

Thanks this gives me a much clearer picture of what you are experiencing. Ok, it seems like you have reactive lymphoid hyperplasia of the terminal ileum associated with the BCL2 and Ki67 biomarkers, as you mentioned. Lymphoid follicles with active germ centers are a unique sign of this benign condition of the terminal ileum. Have you been diagnosed with Crohn's disease before? Yours symptoms resemble those of chronic inflammation of the gut~ bleeding and stomach pain, etc.

So, yes this is not evidence of cancer, if that's what your asking. However, the Ki67 protein positivity is associated with increased cell proliferation and is associated with a poor prognosis (meaning it could likely progress to cancer).

If you have Crohn's disease or inflammatory bowel syndrome, try to get your symptoms under control. Otherwise get tested for other reasons of bleeding from the gut such as infection (giardiasis), Crohn's, or immunodeficiency leading to chronic infection.

I hope this answers your question. Please ask if you have any follow up questions.

Regards
