Acid reflux

Resolved question:
Dry throat and back mouth, light struggle breathing, reflux feeling in chest sometimes. But throat and breathing started about 4 weeks ago along with hoarse voice and clearing of throat. Initially I thought I had some sort of chest infection as it hurt and I found it hard to breathe at the start. But that scary start didn't last long. Im lying down and it seems to be worse but even worse on my belly and I have a sore throat at least obce a day for a very long time.

Hello,

Thank you for using Ask a Doctor Service from Doctor Spring.

You are suffering from sore throat, acid reflux, mild breathing difficulty and voice change since 4 weeks.

Your voice change and discomfort in throat (throat clearing) are most likely due to acid reflux. As this acid reflux may cause inflammation in throat and hence the condition has persisted for 4 weeks. Usually any throat infection doesn’t last that long.

Your mild breathing difficulty which worsen on lying down may be wheezing or early asthma. For that you consult a local physician (Who could do the physical examination and a pulmonary function test to confirm it, if the Doctor wants).

If you can feel wheezing sound, you can discuss bronchodilator medication including salbutamol 2 mg two times for 5 days with your local physician.
We can add antihistamine medication for same including Tab.Levocetrizine 5 mg once daily for 5 days.

For acid reflux you should follow life style changes and medication including omeprazole or rabeprazone 20 mg once in morning for one month. Kindly discuss the above with your local Doctor.

Life style changes includes
Do’s
1. Drink plenty of water ( sips of water at interval of 20-30minutes)
2. Take meals at proper time
3. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables
Don’ts
1. Clear your throat frequently (swallow instead)
2. Take very hot, spices and cold food items
3. Take coffee or tea more than two times in a day
4. Smoke
5. Take alcohol, tobacco, pan etc

Hope this helps. Feel free to ask if you have any further queries.

Thank you.
Regards
