I have a lot of anxiety, and I am taking medication and seeing a therapist. Recently I had some traumatic even happen that has caused me to be hypersensitive to my heartbeat. I can my pulse in my neck all the time, and sometimes holding objects in my hand like a phone move with my pulse. Should I be concerned, or is it emotion?

Hello,

Thank you for choosing DoctorSpring.

This is nothing abnormal . The pulse beat can be visible in the neck in many individuals. I would like to know whether you are under the care of a Doctor ? If so do you know your pulse rate and blood pressure ? Have your checked your thyroid status ?

You can reply as a followup
Thankyou

Yes, I have seen a doctor. I had an EKG and a chest XRay as well as a troponin test. The reason for all the tests was a doctor mistaking costochondritis for a heart attack. The ER ran the tests and said I was ok. My family doctor reviewed everything and said it was ok, but out of this, I have had a lot of anxiety.

I went to the doctor recently this week to follow up on my anxiety and an ear infection and my blood pressure was 124/74 and my pulse was 76.

I have not checked my thyroid status. I feel as though it is anxiety, but how long does it take my mind to settle down and to stop firing of stressers at such a high level. I'm having a problem getting stressed over my anxiety.

Hello,

If the Tropt T and ECG was normal its in unlikely that the pain is cardiac in origin. You are just getting stressed up. Relax there is no need to worry. Symptoms are also not suggestive.

DO GET A Thyroid Function test. Hyperthyroidism can have similar manifestations.
Meanwhile try some relaxation techniques - whatever works for you. If the anxiety persists you might want to consider anti anxiety medications.

Hello Again,

I am doing better overall with anxiety from the event. Still have anxiety but still getting counseling and taking medication. However, I am concerned because occasionally when sitting down I can hear a clicking noise in my throat that is in sync with my heartbeat. This also sometimes is during times where I have noticeable gas. I also have noticed that my bottom jaw will bob with my pulse, and often chatters when I get extra anxious. Should I see a cardiologist or is this stress/anxiety? Thank you.
