Resolved question:
(1) Are the terms 'gastronomy tube' and 'gastric feeding tube' and 'percutaneous endoscopic gastronomy tube' used interchangeably?
(2) The American Geriatrics Society in May 2013 published 'Feeding Tubes in Advanced Dementia Position Statement.' Only PEG tubes were mentioned, not 'G tubes.' Is that because the terms were used interchangeably, or because G tubes don't involve the same risks or complications as PEG tubes and therefore don't incite the same level of controversy?
(3) If an elderly patient patient has recurring pneumonia, aspirations, (recurring urinary tract infections), and dementia (though arguably not legally incompetent), and has failed a feeding test, is the medical community divided on whether a G tube should be implanted, and if so, is the medical community divided to the exent its divided over the PEG tube? (I'm not asking for medical advice here, so I hope you feel comfortable answering as completely as possible.)

I will answer point to point.
1.All the tubes are same. They are commonly called as Ryles tube.But, the method of placing is different. Gastric feeding tube is passed through nose . gastrostomy tube is passed through open incision over the abdomen. Percutaneous tube is passed under Endoscope guidance.
2.PEG is the latest procedure which is done by Endoscope. Under the video guidance, the tube is kept in the stomach.The tube,i. e.Ryles tube is the same tube that is used here also.
3.It all depends on the general condition of the patient, whether Ryles tube can be placed directly into the stomach after cutting the abdomen or by Endoscope approach.
