Bleeding and pain in surgery spot. Was it an unsuccessful surgery?

Resolved question:

Dear doctor,

Please help me with immediate response. I got a surgery for broken tibia about 4 weeks ago. I got 4 intramedullary nails also in surgery. But my leg is still swelling a bit. When I use my crutches, it turns red and blood starts oozing out. Is it due to a bad surgery, which resulted in internal breaking of blood vessels or ruptures? How much time it will take for the circulatory system to get healed? The issue  I am concerned is of that bleeding. Please help.

Thanks for your question and concern. Surgeries surely cause some changes in blood vessels. This changes can make them leaking to a bit. This means, fluids may escape through their walls. This is the reason of swelling and bleeding you may see after surgery. This is simply normal and nothing to worry about. The surgery might be successful. Still it may take up 6 to 8 weeks for a complete healing, depending upon the type of wounds. Good luck.
