Can rupture of fluid filled cyst cause bloody discharge and pain in vagina?

Resolved question:
I was diagnosed with a 5 cm fluid filled cyst that burst 3 days ago as seen on an ultrasound. I had pain before it burst and then it eased up yesterday. Today I am in much more pain and have grainy bloody discharge. Is this just my period that it delayed? I have never had grainy blood during a period. Pain is very intense on pain meds and torodol. I just want to know if this is part of the rupture process or if I need to go back to the dr. I have recently stopped birth control (1.5 mos ago)to ttc. Have gotten a painful cyst before w out blood. Also have a history of mild to moderate endometriosis. I have taken the torodol three times bc I know it isnt good to take too often., but it t hasn't relieved the pain. Thank you.

Hello.

Thanks for writing to DoctorSpring.com with your health concern.

- Please mention when your last period was.

At times, after stopping birth control, as the body adjusts to the hormones, you might experience spotting / altered bloody discharge.

Endometriosis itself totally explains the pain and the discharge too.

- Can you upload the scan that detailed the cyst and its subsequent bursting ?

The pain could be due to the rupture, as the fluid inside the abdominal ( peritoneal ) surface takes time to get absorbed.

There is no option for this acute phase ( maybe a week ) apart from pain medications(OTC Ibuprofen 400 mg, twice a day with food, for 5 days), a hot water bottle and some fortitude.

If the pain persists beyond a week, you need to see your doctor to rule out an endometriosis flare up.

Feel free to discuss further.

All the best.

Take care.

Thank you! I do not have the scan and my last period was may 10. My big concern really is how painful this "period" is it if it is something I should be concerned about. The grainy/piecy texture is abnormal. Are periods after cysts more painful? Thank you!

Thanks for writing to us again.

Periods after cysts get better if the cyst ruptures.

However, the fluid that burst takes a few days as I said to clear up completely.
