Cause and route of spread for RAOULTELLA PLANTICOLA UTI.

Resolved question:
how did i get raoultella planticola uti? I had one infection 3 weeks ago. It cleared up and it is back. Doctors in this area have never seen it. Am being treated with Keflex, 500mg/ 3x/day and they are going to then have me take 500 mg 1x/day for 30 days.

This is scary and I don't know how I got it and if it can become systemic.

Anyone with knowledge in this area . . . your reply would be appreciated.

Thank you.

P.S. Also, ketones, protein, moderate blood, WBC, and RBC in urine. this has never happened to me before.

Hello,
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com
Raoultella planticola is an environmental pathogen and is not known to infect human beings. However, in the last 2-3 years several reports of infection with it have been reported. What has changed that it has started infecting human beings we are not aware at this point of time.
The infection is usually severe and requires patient to be treated with antibiotics for a fairly long period, usually 4-6 weeks.
Feel free to discuss further,
Take care
Sincerely
Rajiv Goel
