Cause for neck pain on side when stressed out.

Resolved question:
Hi. I am a 55 year-old woman in excellent shape. I am 5'5" and 122lbs. I practice yoga daily. I am just starting to write my masters thesis and i am very stressed out. Sometimes when I get stressed out one side of my neck gets painful and stiff, and I cannot turn my head easily. This started happening last week. I took lots of Advil (normally NEVER take pain meds) and it got a little better, and I kept up my yoga practice. Today I noticed I have pain AND numbness on the right side of my neck. The pain starts at the right base of my skull, and radiates down into my collarbone. The numbness starts on the middle of my right ear and goes partway down my neck. The numbness has NEVER happened before. There is no tingling just partial numbness. I still have some feeling. This has not altered my range of motion in any way. Should I see a doctor? Should I be concerned? I am a little scared.

Hello.
Thank you for posting your query at DoctorSpring.com
I have noted your symptoms. The most likely cause of your symptoms could be a pinched nerve in the neck region, due to slipped disc.
There is no need to worry, as it improves with conservative treatment in most people in a few days to weeks.
You could start neck extension exercises (under the guidance of a physiotherapist). If symptoms persist, you may see a doctor.
Best wishes,
