There is a newer pill that causes minimum side effects.
You can go for the drospirenone containing pill.
In Australia, it is available as Yaz or Yasmin .

I cannot have them as we have family history of heart attacks I'm being tested for seizures and I cannot have lactose

There are lactose free pills.
However, given your many medical conditions, mainly increased risk of heart attacks and seizures, It is best to avoid hormones totally.
Only hormones can help to regulate cycles, it is best to avoid them in your case due to so many risk factors.
Other than hormones, weight loss can help you to regulate cycles.
If you do not have regular periods, that is okay, but the risks of taking hormones are too many.
Take care.
