Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
A B HCG level less than 5 ( or 5 ) indicates that you are not pregnant.
Following a medical abortion, your ovulation would be very unpredictable.
A normal period generally occurs between 4 - weeks.
It is advisable to avoid conception for atleast 3 months after an abortion, to let the tissues heal properly.
To check if the procedure was complete, it is better to rely on an ultrasound scan that checks the uterine cavity ( if it is completely empty ) rather than Blood tests or HPT.
Ovulation can occur anytime between 2 - 6 weeks.
All the best.
Please feel free to ask for further clarifications.

Hi, Does the ovulation stripe(Isure) work to check this. And after my scan the doctor said the uterine cavity is empty but there is HCG of 5. And even today I have spotting. So is there a chance to ovulate when HCG level is there in the body. HCG was 5 on 27th Sept. And what is the best method of contraception, my husband doesnt use condom. And when should I start using the contraception pills.

Hello again,

Thanks gor the follow-up.

HCG level of 5 means that it is almost absent from your body.

As the uterine cavity is empty, and the HCG values have fallen, yes, there are chances of ovulation definitely.

Spotting is normal for a few weeks after any abortion.

I sure can detect ovulation quite reliably.

If your husband is uncomfortable with condoms, then the next best option is to use oral contraceptive pills. These pills work by inhibiting ovulation, so there would be no need to use I sure.

You can start using them immediately also, there is no problem.
All the best.

Thanks for your quick reply, so can I start using Doris from today?? As the strip has 20 tablets or so. Or should I wait for next period. Else can u suggest me some best medicine for oral contraception.
And what is the best way of emergency contraception? As Ipill never worked for me.
Regards
Maha

Hi again,

You can start taking Doris right away, there is no need to wait for your next period, because it would be unpredictable.

Emergency contraception ( for eg. I pill ) has the same composition ( progesterone content ) and same dosage. So the brand does not matter. Just the brand differs.

Emergency contraception is not recommended at all, as it is not safe, nor very effective, and has lots of side effects. If you are regularly taking oral contraceptives, that is the best protection.

Please take the tablets at the same time each day.
All the best.
