Hello.
Thank you for posting your query at DoctorSpring.com
I understand your concern.
Yes being overweight or obese does play a role in stroke or MI which are potentially life threatning diseases.
But you should not be worrying about dying from now, because it takes a long time to cause such fatal events.
I will like to know your height so that i can guide you about your correct BMI and weight.
At your age you can easily exercise and follow a strict diet regime and lead a healthy life.
It is a good thing that you know being overweight can cause health problems, but not at such a young age.
Normally after 40, if the person is obese and also has other contributory factor like smoking, diabtes, hypertension, then the risk of getting such fatal events become higher.
Please provide me details regarding your height. And i will guide you further,
Regards.

I am currently 5'9-5'10 range. My current weight is also 290-300. I am just very worried because I already have High Blood Pressure and Sleep Apnea. Can I have some tips on dieting?

Hello.
Yes your BMI is definitely on the higher side and you fall under the obese category.
The best way to start losing weight is to follow a strict diet, with more veggies and grilled food like grilled chicken instead of lean meat. Have 3-4 small frequent meals in a day. Please avoid any kind of sugar or fatty foods and have meals at regular times. Irregular food habits worsen the metabolism. Also never skip meals. Plus i will advise you to start walking around 3-4 kms per day, workin out around an hour every day. Moderate intensity walking will help you lose weight rapidly. This is coming from someone who followed this simple tips and lost close to 20 kgs in 6 months. So if i can, you can definitely do it too. Some people are blessed with bad metabolism, hence we have to modify our diet, avoid foods that are fatty and work out everyday. But if followed stringently it will definitely be helpful. YOU HAVE TO BE EXTREMELY STRICT WITH YOUR DIET AND EXERCISE AT LEAST 5 TIMES A WEEK.
Your BP and apnea problem will settle down one you start losing weight.
So please do not worry and start moving towards a healthy life. Have more of soups, grilled veggies and chicken. Avoid lean meat, beef ( e.t.c )
Hope this was helpful,
Regards.

So, what about things like Turkey Burger or red meat (steaks, etc.) Don't I need protien from them? What about taking vitamins like One A Day and Fish Oil? And, how long will it take to see results from this diet?

Expert:  Dr. Jaydeep Tripathy replied 2 Days.

Hello.
You need to avoid turkey burger and red meat.
They have a lot of fat. And it will give you unnecessary calories.
You can take fish oil and omega fatty acid supplements. They help in boosting the metabolism.
This diet will help you in reducing weight in 3 months time.
Please be patient and follow it diligently.
Regards.

So, you are saying that if I eat Turkey and Red Meat, I will not lose weight? That doesn't make sense to me doctor. My current physician tells me to eat that stuff due to it being better for me than my usual intake of food. Can you please explain?

Expert:  Dr. Jaydeep Tripathy replied 1 Day.

Hello.
See there are obviously much more fatty foods than turkey burger and red meat.
In that case a detailed history of your diet is required, like what kind of diet you were following till now.
May be compared to that the alternatives such as red meat and turkey was better. They are better compared to other fatty foods since they are high in protein content. I will still advise you to have more of lean meat such as grilled chicken. Any kind of processed and fatty food gives a lot of extra calories. Like for exaqmple if you take a boiled egg, you can have even up to 10 egg whites a day, but not the yolk. If you have a breakfast full of cereals and egg whites to have adequate balance then you will lose weight, since your meal had high carbs and protein but no fats. I hope you're getting my point.
In your case i will advise a slow transition and be patient with your diet and weight loss techniques like exercise. It needs time but once you get into it, you will start losing weight soon.
I will still advise you to have more of chicken compared to red meat. But you can definitely have that too, but not very regularly.
Hope this was helpful,
Regards.
