Does low ANC means I am having MDS?

Resolved question:
Dr. Eswaran,

My neutrophils are 1.0-------9 months out from chemo and 6 months out from radiation. They just dropped from 1.8 to 1.0. I know you told me "no worries"--but why? I am afraid the low ANC means that I might have MDS. I'm also worried that if it could drop from 1.8 to 1.0, that it can still drop farther. And that would be really scary. What do you think of this? (Just to remind you, my red cells and platelets are all in the normal range).

Dear,
Thank you for your query.
This fluctuation is a normal phenomenon during bone marrow recovery from chemotherapy. I can suggest you to improve your diet and do regular exercise to boost your immunity.
Your concern regards MDS is far fetched as the symptomatology is different. I would suggest you not to get confused with information available in the internet.
Be assured of our help throughout.

Thank you so much. But is it common for people to have such low neutrophils (1.0) nine months after chemo? I would have thought it would be higher by now. How long could this last?

Expert:  Dr. Prasad Eswaran replied 3 Days.

I will expect the counts to be fine by spetember when you were originally scheduled to repeat the tests.
