Feeble and pain during voiding after CATHETER.

Resolved question:
my grandfather is aged 85 years..for the last 1 year he is suffering from urinary system problems..he has been put on catheter for the last year and it is changed after every 10-15 days and he felt relieved by that..but since last one week again he is experiencing severe pain during voiding and has become very feeble..what should be the next line of treatment .is any surgical intervention possible?or what is the best possible step..

Hello,
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com

You need to get your grandfather evaluated to find what is the cause of urinary retention and if prostate is the cause whether he is fit for surgery or not.

The troubles he is experiencing at this point of time are secondary to bladder spasms and you should start him on anti cholinergic medications under the care of urologist.

Regards.

Hello,
You can start him on T. Solifenacin 5mg once daily and he should start feeling better after 2-3 days.
Take care
