Resolved question:

Hi, I m suffering from the problem of genital bumps. It keeps changing its color from red, pink and at time turned into fleshed color. It causes too much itching. Doctor has prescribed me medicines along with ointment. But can you really tell me what exactly causes the problem of genital bumps and what measures can be taken to treat them.

Hi,

 Thanks for your query.

Genital bumps can be really worrisome and irritating, especially when you don’t know what’s causing them. Genital bumps can be caused by variety of conditions- both by sexually transmitted diseases and by non-sexually transmitted diseases or benign conditions.

Genital warts, genital herpes and syphilis can result into development of genital bumps. While other non-sexually transmitted diseases and conditions which causes genital bumps includes:

  • Yeast infection
  • Shaving irritation and razor bumps
  • Allergic reactions
  • Ingrown hairs
  • Jock itch

Home remedies that can help in treating genital bumps which are not caused by STDs are:

  • Wear loose-fitting clothes to avoid chaffing or irritation
  • Stop shaving to avoid ingrown hairs and shaving.
  • For allergic reactions, discontinue the use of any soaps, lotions, detergents may be causing irritation. Switch to dermatologist recommended brands formulated for sensitive skin.
