Gonorrhoea.

Resolved question:
Was recently screened for std's via urine and blood testing with all negative results. My question is if I somehow had disseminated gonococcal infection(DGI), would a gonorrhea test necessarily be positive or can the standard gonorrhea test be negative while still having DGI?...

Hello,

Thank you for choosing DoctorSpring.

The standard STD urine test for Gonococci usually include - Gram stain, culture or NAAT (Sometimes all 3).

To answer your specific question whether these tests be positive or negative in DGi - It can be either way. In many cases the routine gonococcal tests are not positive. However in some cases it can be. A negative Gonococci staining or culture does not rule out DGI.

DGI diagnosis is made based on the clinical symptoms and certain specific tests. If you can give me brief medical history and your current symptoms I might be able to help you in a better way.

Thank you
