My heart races and I am going back into hospiatal, to go on another anti depressant as I'm a mess mentaly and cant handle my heart racing. I now think that the Zolpidem could be the reason my heart wont stop racing could you please let me know your opinion as I'm Scared and confused literally.

I know none of these are good for heart health, but I have cognitive imparement, am confused and scared, and more scared when my heart wont stop racing, I have my thoughts on all this, as I've been under Psychiatrist for 30 years, I think the Zolpidem maybee causing my heart to race along with my anxiety please help me I am so afraid. many thanks K.P.

Hello. Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com.
I think your main problem is anxiety and the racing heart rate is primarily due to anxiety. Zolpidem does not cause your heart to race.
The medications you are on, are probably not adequate to control your anxiety and that may be leading to a heart rate acceleration.
So you may consult your psychiatrist for a better anti-anxiety medication.
As a cardiologist I would advise you to undergo a 2D ECHO test and a 24 hour Holter examination to rule out any other cardiac disease and to confirm whether all this due to anxiety itself.
I hope this was helpful. Feel free to ask queries.
Regards, Dr Vivek Mahajan, DM Cardiology.
