Hello,
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com
Hiatal Hernia makes it more prone for the stomach acids to reflux back and cause oesophagitis. Hence the following type of food are to be avoided such as dairy foods, citrus fruits, oily and fatty food, lemonade, carbonated beverages, peppermint, chocolates, e.t.c
Then it's natural to wonder what can someone eat. I will like to reassure you that when consumed in excess quantities they can cause the reflux. However if you're not allowed to take dairy food, you can definitely take Skimmed milk, low fat yoghurt, low fat butter, e.t.c
Yes you can definitely take Atkins Protein Shake, but try to limit it to 2 scoops per day, and if it is required for milk to be added, then add the skimmed milk to the mixture. It is not going to cause any reflux. However make sure you drink enough water at regular intervals, not immediately on consumtion.
Can you give me a detailed diet history? What you have been advised by your doctor?
Regards.
