Lump under nipple getting larger

Resolved question:
I feel a lump under my right nipple, and it seems to have gotten larger this month. I can't tell if it's cancerous or just gynecomastia. If it is the latter, are there ways to reduce it without surgery (e.g., taking testosterone supplements)? Will it eventually go away on its own?

Hello,

Thank you for choosing DoctorSpring.

I would like some additional information from you so that I can provide my best learned opinion.

1. For how long you are having this breast swelling ?
2. Is there an enlargement of the breast tissue in general ?
3. Is the swelling only on one side ?
4. Is the swelling fixed or freely movable under the breast tissue ?
5. To confirm is it directly under the areola ?
6. Is there any discharge from the nipple.

Hello,

Thank you for providing the additional information.

With the available information the swelling appears to be non cancerous. However since this is a recent onset swelling you will need a basic set evaluation. Most likely cause is an early Gynaecomastia.

A direct physical examination, Liver, renal and thyroid function test, testicular examination might be needed depending upon the general examination findings. Surgery need not be considered as there is no cosmetic disfigurement. The treatment depends upon finding the cause for this swelling, which in most cases remain unknown.

Hope this helps

Sure,
Liver disease, renal disease, medications ( like Spironolactone), hyperthyroidism (high Thyroid hormones), testicular masses etc can cause it . So it prudent to look for signs/tests for these disease. Around 30% cases there are no cause for Gynaecomastia.

Gynecomastia often regresses spontaneously, so observation alone is the initial step for most adolescents, and also for most men, after stopping offending medications and/or treating any underlying disorders.

In your case a confirmation is also need that it is Gynaecomastia itself.

Thank you
