Nagging sore throat

Resolved question:
I have a mild but nagging sore throat and sore glands in my neck. They don't feel enlarged but are tender to touch. I also have a slight runny nose. I have had all of the above symptoms for four weeks.

Hello,

Thank you for using Ask a Doctor Service from Doctor Spring.

I can understand your problem, and will try to help you the best possible

You are suffering from chronic tonsillitis( infection of throat). Some time we get recurrent infection mainly with change of season. Your picture is very clear, and it is normal except congestion of throat (posterior pharyngeal wall). You have Grade II tonsils which are normal.
Since you are having tender nodes a complete course of antibiotic is the best way to go. This will eradicate the bacteria and prevent any further infection.
For the throat infection Amoxicillin is the antibiotic of choice so we can start following treatment. You should start these in consult with your Doctor.

Cap. Amoxicillin 500 mg three times daily.
Tab. Cetrizine 10 mg once at night.

Analgesic for relief in pain and to decrease inflammation including Tab Paracetamol (Tylenol) 1gm two to three times daily divided doses.
You can do saline/asprin gargle two times for five days (if you like)

Hope this helps. Feel free to ask if you have any further queries.

Thank you.

Regards

Dr. Sunil Jalan
