No periods since 3 months with swollen breasts

Resolved question:

Hi I'm 18. In February and March I have missed my period including this April as well. I went to a doctor already and I'm not pregnant. I did a pee and blood test as well as an ultrasound. I also have herpes so I'm not sure if that's a contributing factor to why I haven't gotten my period. I do get cramps and sometimes-sharp pains under my chest. I also have swollen breasts for some time now. I sometimes also feel dizzy and tired. Please if you could think of a reason why I'm missing my period or what could help I would appreciate it a lot.

Hello, I understand your concern. There can be various reasons for irregular periods. Generally the initial few months after menstruation begins is irregular and may take time to normalize due to hormones. However it can be triggered by one of these factors such as:

a) Emotional stresses can also irregular periods.

b) Excessive weight loss or gain

c) Eating disorders like Bulimia

d) Travelling

e) Certain medications like birth control pills

f) Increased exercises.

Since you have not had periods for 3 months and all the tests for pregnancy are also ruled out, then it has to be thoroughly evaluated by the obg-gyn doctor. I would suggest you to consult her/him to find out the cause for the irregularity. The swelling in the breast associated with tenderness during periods is commonly known as cyclical mastalgia. This usually occurs prior to your menstrual cycle. Here before the onset of menstrual cycle, there is a peak of estrogen levels and progesterone peaks by the 21-st day of the cycle. Due to the fluctuation of the hormones, normal cyclical aberration causing generalized enlargement .It exaggerates hormonal effects on glands and stroma. Breast pain can be due to various causes like fibroadenosis, breast cyst. This is a normal condition so there s nothing to worry about. The fatigue is because of the severe pain. I could suggest a few remedies to reduce the pain such as:

a) Oil of evening primrose oil once a day for six months. It contains gamolenic acid that reverses saturated to unsaturated fatty acids.

b) Capsule Danazol 100mg twice a day for 4- 6 months. However if you are planning on getting pregnant, this should be avoided.

c) Vitamin B6 and E can also be used once a day for 6 months.

d) Painkillers like ibuprofen twice a day during the periods.

If it doesn't improve then you can consult your obg-gyn doctor. Hope this helps. Thank you.
