Hello,

Thank you for asking your query at DoctorSpring.

I would to know some additional information from you so that I can provide a solid and learned opinion.

1. For how many are you having this pain ?
2. Do you have any of these symptoms - pain while urination, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain ?
3. You say the pain is in the mid back. Is it somewhere at the level where the shoulder blade ends ? If not higher up / lower ?
4. Is the pain radiating ? - Moving up or down ?

My pain is like right where the ribs end sometimes i have had abdominal pain mostly in the back now i have alot of noise coming out of stomach . I dont really have any of the other symptoms i dont have a history of anything but i do consume alcohol but not daily mostly weekends at dinner dont smoke but have done smokeless tobbaco in the past. Radiating i guess it had been in abdomen and now just in back

Thank you

The pain seems to be musculoskeletal . There are no warning sings , so we can assume that this pain is nothing serious. You can just observe for couple of days and the it should resolve on its own.

You can use a OTC pain balm or cream. Since you have some amount of stomach upset it is better to avoid oral medications.

Hope this helps

I dont think that it is muscular I havent really done anything to strain it i have pain in both sides mostly on the right slightly on the left. Not better or worse today.i live in an area that has very poor air quality and my symptoms improve when i leave the area and come back when i return could it be something airbourne?

Expert:  Dr. Jaydeep Tripathy replied 2 Days.

AS of now there is nothing specifically suggestive that the pain is airborne. I assume you have no respiratory symptoms either. A history of exertion or strain is not needed for musculoskeletal pain to occur. The fact that you have pain on moving/twisting also suggests this possibility.

That said I am not totally disregarding the other possibilities. The best approach at this stage would be judicious observation. With pain meds the symptom should resolve in 2-3 days. If not you will require further evaluation.

Hope this helps

What does kidney pain feel like and what are the symptoms of bad kidney or infection

Expert:  Dr. Jaydeep Tripathy replied 1 Day.

The pain of a kidney (ureteric) stone would start in the side of the abdomen, (loins) and then it can radiate to the groin. Some times the pain can be higher up at the back, (somewhere near the area where you are having pain).

A kidney infection can also have pain at the same site, but will have other signs like tenderness, fever, pain while urination etc.

That's the reason why I have asked for some additional symptoms in my first reply. As of now since the pain is isolated, there is no definitive diagnosis possible. Since the pain is felt while twisting + absence of above symptoms suggests musculoskeletal pain. If the pain persists feel free to get back to me. I shall keep the consult open
