Reaction after taking PREDNISOLONE with XANAX. ANXIETY DISORDER?

Resolved question:
I've been dealing with a traumatic situation for the past year, and take .05mg of xanax to help me sleep which has been helpful since I'm prone to anxiety. This week I was given a short term dose of prednisone for bronchitis for 3 days, 10mg x3, x 2, x1 and I've had a terrible reaction. I've been anxious, confused, angry, sad, irritable, sleepless, etc. when will this leave my system? Or has it triggered something else in the way of anxiety disorder?

Hello
Thanks for your query at DoctorSpring.com.
I have gone through your question in detail and I can understand what you are going through.
Prednisolone is a good drug, but it has a tendency to increase anxiety disorder. Mostly after 5-10 days when prednisolone will leave the body, the anxiety symptoms will return to normalcy.
Xanax is a good drug to control anxiety but taking it regularly may lead you to the problem of dependence. This is a disorder of anxiety and occurs cause of imbalance of certain neurotransmitters in the brain. especially serotonin, noradrenaline, and dopamine to some extent. Medicines are the best options to take care of these symptoms. Paroxetine is the most popular medicine and my drug of choice. I generally prescribe my patients 12.5 mg per day at night which takes care of anxiety symptoms. Also certain medicines like propranolol and clonazepam can be given as required when there is a panic episode or expected situation where panic attack can appear.
Do meet your doctor and discuss these treatment options.
Hope this helps,
In case, if you have any further query, do let me know.
Kind regards
Dr. Srikanth Reddy
