Hello,
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com
Your relative seems to have Polycystic Kidney Disease, a condition where there are multiple cysts in the kidneys, which affects it's functioning. Most such people also have some amount of liver and spleen enlargement, presenting with abdomen pain, electrolyte imbalance, e.t.c
It is important you tell me the age of your relative, and what are the current symptoms?
Based on that i can guide you further,
Regards.

Hi,
My relative is newborn girl about 1,5 month old. She was born as twin but her twin has not any problems. Because she is just a baby we dont know the symptoms. What is the future life ecxpentancy for her.

Hello,
Thank you for the follow up.
It entirely depends on how her kidney is able to handle it's normal process.
A lot of neonates present with fluid overload, hypertension, concentration defects ( build up of harmful electrolytes ), in case of which the only treatment is supportive care.
The prognosis normally is not very good.
What are her current symptoms?
Regards.

Hello,
Yeah i saw the reprts that you sent and that confirms the severity of the disease.
It is important she keeps receiving supporting treatment, mostly for her BP ( when it is high ).
Currently her serum creatinine is a little elevated, but not to an alarming extent. So that needs to be monitored.
Eating increased amounts of nutritious food improves growth in children with autosomal recessive PKD.( Polycystic Kidney Disease ). In some cases, growth hormones are used. In response to kidney failure, autosomal recessive PKD patients must receive dialysis or transplantation.
Currently she will needs fluid management and a diuretic like Lasix or Furosemide to excrete the excess water that has built up.
All the best.
Regards.

Hello,
I want to ask about the treatments you mentioned like using diuretics Lasix or Furosemide. Are this save to use in 1.5 month old baby. What is the age you can start treatments. What about the dialysis for 1,5 month old baby, is that save or best option if the transplantation is hard to execute. And what about growth hormones when you can start to use them?
Best Regards,
Mahmoodi

Hello,
Thank you for the follow up.
Yes Lasix can be used in 1.5 month old baby. The benefits definitely outweigh the minor side effects the medicine may cause.
Dialysis or Peritoneal Dialysis is a option, is safe for neonates, but is initiated only if there is acute renal failure.
And regarding growth hormones, it depends on the precentile the baby's growth is in, It is very difficult to judge baby's growth and how it is getting affected before 1 year. If required after that growth hormone can be initiated.
Hope this was helpful,
Regards.
