Scratch from indoor cat and muai thai

Resolved question:
Hi,

I have been scratched by my indoor cat's tooth 2 days ago on the back of my hand. It is a shallow wound and there was little to no bleeding. It was not noticeable until a day later when I took a shower after a muay thai class, where I wore boxing wraps. After the shower, I felt a burning sensation, discomfort, slight swelling and redness around the wound. I have applied fusidic cream 2% on the wound, and have iced it a little bit.

Is my wound infected? Is there any emergent danger? Do I need to take oral antibiotics? What should I do about my wound? What are the signs in my situation that tells me I should get treatment?

I also have a picture available to upload.

Thank you.

Ami

Hello Ami,

Thank you for asking your query at DoctorSpring.

The wound might have a minor infection. There is slight odema (swelling) and redness. But it could be very well due to a tight gloves or from the super added trauma from Muay Thai classes !

No there is no emergent danger as of now. You can just keep a watch on the swelling. Apply the fusidic cream twice daily for 3 days. The swelling and the wound should start healing in 2 days. As of now it appears you do not need oral antibiotics. Antibiotics (also a Doctor visit) need to be considered under these circumstances

1. Fever
2. Pain over the arm or Pain along the veins
3. Pus or watery discharge from the wound site.
The probability for the above said symptoms to appear is very less. The wound should resolve by its own in few days. However Do keep a watch on it. Avoid trauma / boxing for a couple of days.

Hope this helps
