Severe headache, more on bending. Treatment besides ADVIL?

Resolved question:
Hello, my 24 year old daughter has had severe headaches for a week (8 on 10
Pt scale). It's at the front of her head and she said it feels like her brain is
Pushing against her skull. Advil helps a bit but doesn't sustain. Her head throbs when she bends over. My brother died suddenly at 55 of a brain aneurism so
I am very nervous. Are they hereditary?

Hello,
Thank you for posting your query at DoctorSpring.com
i have noted your daughter's symptoms and they are most likely due to a severe migraine. The headache can be relieved with rizatriptan or sumatriptan tablets.
I have noted your brother's medical history and would like to reassure you that aneurysms are not hereditary and your daughter does not have symptoms of that.
However, for peace of mind, a brain scan may be done later.
Best wishes,

Thank you! Do migrane headaches typically last for over a week? She went a day without it but otherwise has hung on for the week. She hasn't had a history of migraines. No sensitivity to light and no other symptoms. Thank you

Thank you for getting back.
Typically, migraine headaches last for 4-72 hours, which means three days. In rare cases, it can last for one week, a condition known as status migranosus.
As of now, we need to stop the headache, with rizatriptan or sumatriptan tablet and if necessary, with tramadol injections.
As mentioned, brain scan should be done, if headaches persist.
