SINUSITIS not responding to AMOXICILLIN. Resistance?

Resolved question:
Hello,

I'm having sinusitis a lot lately. I've been having a couple (5) of antibiotic threatments in the last year but it always keeps comming back after a couple of weeks. I have had a CT scan at a moment I was feeling better and the CT scan didn't show anything abnormally.

Last week my ENT doctor prescribed antibiotics again, Amoclane (amoxicillin 875/125). I had a sinusitis infection again, with yellowisch mucus comming from my nose and throath. My ENT doctor said I must be very sensitive to this kind of infections and antibiotics is the only thing there is to help.

Previous days I was getting better and feeling better too. But yesterday and today (while I'm still taking the antibiotics!!) I already have yellowisch mucus comming form my nose again. Not as thick as it was before. But in previous days it was clear mucus, not colored. Now today it's again yellowish. Especially in the morning there's more colored mucus comming from my nose.

Is it possible that this antibiotic threatmeant is not strong enough? Or is it possible that these bacteria are immune to amoxicillin or something?

I tried to contact my ENT doctor but I she's unavailable till friday.

I do have a prescription for Avelox antibiotics that I never had to use. Is it wise to start this Avelox threatment right after I finishing the Amoclane (Amoxicillin)? I need to take 5 more pills of Amoclane. After that I had a threatmeant of 7 days Amoclane.

Please advice.

Kind regards,
Andy

Hello,

Thanks for posting your query at DoctorSpring.com

I can understand your concern.

These are Fordyce's spots. These are ectopic sebaceous glands and variation of the normal sebaceous glands. They are benign and do not need any treatment.

I would recommend not worrying about it. It's not related to any std.

Please let me know if you have any queries.

Regards.

Thank you, sir. I guess my question would be is it normal for these to become sore and irritated by my pants or sexual activity? I do not wear underwear and have not for 30+ years. What would be causing the pain and irritation now?

Hello

Thanks for your reply.

Fordyce's spots ate known to get irritated with friction. That's what causing the pain and inflammation.

I would recommend to avoid friction you need to use an underwear.

You can cortisone cream mixed with Mupirocin cream on it twice daily for a week to reduce the irritation n pain that is present right now.

Feel free to discuss further,
Regards.
