Swelling in abdomen, delayed period with normal BARIUM SWALLOW.

Resolved question:
For last two weeks I have had a swollen belly
Lower abdomen like I'm 3 months pregnant
I just started working out a month ago after a while away from gym which makes it even weirder
My period arrived 5 days late and now I have swelling and period
I have had colonoscopy two months ago for loose stools and it was normal
And I suffer from small hiatal hernia discovered two years old patientago when I did barium swallow due to gastritis
Finally I did abdominal and pelvic ultrasound and all is normal

My annual blood work was done in March and was normal including celiac testing
I have no pain at all just swelling no gas either
What can cause this
Does it warrant further investigation

Hello,
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com
If you have a swelling around the tummy area, it definitely needs further evaluation. Since there are no other symptoms, and it gets worse on working out, it could be muscle related.
You should rest for a couple of days and see if the swelling subsides a bit.
The other possibility is gas bloating which can happen in bacterial overgrowth. You need not necessarily feel gassy, but the stomach can be bloated.
I will like to see a CT of your abdomen, since ultrasound is normal.
Did any family physician examine your tummy?
Feel free to discuss further,
Regards.

jNo it's not worse on working out just started after I began workout which I expected my tummy to be flatter. It's starting to subside Dr checked it and said its probably fluid from period being late and to wait.. He did ultrasound and didn't wanna subject me to radiation ct scan yet. Do you think j should press for it. What else can it be. Can it be stomach related like tumour? I did tumour marker tests in the bloodworm all Normal physician said if it was that then there would show fluid in my abdomen causing bloating and anemia which I had neither

Hello,
Any fluid accumulation or tumor would have been picked up on the ultrasound. So that is definitely not the case.
If it is beginning to subside, then do not worry.
Wait for a couple of days, and if it does not go down considerably get a CT done.
Regards.

Can this be serious? Life threatening What would we look for in ct that ultrasound didn't show

No this does not seem life threatening at all.
The CT can pick up minor fluid accumulations or ascites that can sometimes be missed on a plain ultrasound.
But since the swelling is subsiding, there is no need of that.
Regards.
