swelling sometime back

Resolved question:

Not sexually active. I am suffering from swollen glands in labia. Will this go away or do I need medicines to cure it? I have had swelling sometime back also but it was a small lump, not painful which get cured in some time. I have no other medical conditions. I have soaked in warm water without any noticeable change. This is very uncomfortable, please suggest me something.

Hi,

Thanks for posting your query.

Swelling on labia with tenderness can be due to following reasons:

  1. Infected hair follicles: It can form small abscesses, which can result into swelling, redness and throbbing pain.
  2. Bartholin’s cyst: It is located midway of labia, and protrudes into vagina and causes discomfort. If infection sets in, the result is a Bartholin’s abscess. Since you have pain present in swelling, infection is likely possibility. Usually systemic antibiotics are needed to control infection.

Proper diagnosis is required, so consult a good gynecologist who can examine and then decide on the appropriate treatment.

Doing hot fomentation in the area can also help in reducing swelling. Taking counter anti inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen is also quite helpful.
