Treatment for HEAVY MENSTRUAL BLEEDING and CLOTS.

Resolved question:
I have never had this before. That's why it's a concern. Thought it would eventually go away but it's not.
OK. After I got back from vacation.June 15th. I started spotting cause it's was my time to get on my period. Spotted for a week. The next week I started bleeding like normal. I had a very bad back pain so I went to see the doctor. He said it was pulled muscle so he gave me medication for muscle relaxers. The pain did go away after 3 days. I never got my urine tested because I was on my period. My doctor did not want to test because it would do no good. Which I understand. My period started slowing down last Thursday June 26th. It was gone by Saturday. My daughter and I went to have lunch together at a restaurant on Saturday at noon June 28. When we got done I felt like I just had a rush of blood and I only had a thin pad. Knowing I was just over. I always wear a thin pad just in case. My underwear and my jeans were socked. I made it to the restroom at the restaurant in time. I had to through my underwear away it was socked. I was bleeding like it was my very next day or my heavy day. I have been bleeding ever since. It won't stop. It's been heavy everyday. I'm 49 and I so worried about this. Can you please let me know what could be the problem? I will be making an appointment with my OBGY. She is always booked and I may not see her right away. Should I be concerned and go to the ER. I don't feel light headed or sick or anything. It just won't stop. I get these big clots of bleed. I am so tired of it. What do I do? I do take High blood Med. very low dose. My blood pressure if always good. I have a blood pressure machine at home and I don't have low blood. I don't know what to do.

Hello
Thanks for posting your query at Doctorspring.com
At 49, the most likely diagnosis is hormonal imbalance.
This is typical of peri menopause.
The hormones start fluctuating, leading to irregular and unpredictable cycles.
Often the lining of the uterus is not regularly shed and it builds up ( endometrial hyperplasia ) thus when it sheds, there is spotting followed by heavy bleeding.
Do not worry, as rarer causes such as a uterine fibroid, polyp, uterine malignancy etc are less likely.
You should have a thorough internal exam by a gynaecologist - per vaginum and per speculum.
Also, a pelvic transvaginal ultrasound scan and hormonal levels - FSH, LH, TSH, Serum estradiol.
Right now, you can take Tranexamic acid thrice a day tablets for a day or two.
IF that fails to stem the bleeding, progesterone can be taken, but have a gynecological evaluation before that.
There is no need to go to the ER, but have an appointment with your OB - GYN as soon as possible.
All the best
Please feel free to discuss further.
Regards.
