Venepuncture and bruising

Resolved question:
Please type your questions here. You can choose the specialty and upload reports in next step...I donated blood on Friday. The nurse that drew my blood struggled a little. I have, what I thought was bruising in the vein just next to the draw site. The site is extremely sore. I have two dime size raised bruises in this area, but not where the blood was actually drawn. Could these be blood clots?

Hello, and thankyou for approaching DoctorSpring with your query.
The raised bruises that you have are due to leakage of blood from the injured blood vessel when the nurse was trying to get your vein. It is nothing to worry and does happen frequently.
You can apply the OTC- Thrombophob gel on the bruise.
If you have too much pain which is bothering you, you can take an OTC drug Ibuprofen.

Over the next few days you will notice that the blood color in the bruise will change due to the breakdown of the blood cells. It will turn reddish to darkish purple, to green and by around the 6th day it will turn yellowish brown and will slowly subside.

I hope this has helped. Please feel free to follow up with any further query.
Thankyou
