Bipolar Illness.

Resolved question:
My psychiatrist just put me on 100mg of Seroquel Friday for sleep. Love that it makes me sleepy within a hour or less but not liking that when I get up in morning which is around 7 I still fill drugged and after being up a couple hours I feel I have to go back to bed and if I do I sleep 3 or 4 hours more. I have suffered from extreme insomnia since I was 19, I have been on several different prescription sleep aids they work for me for a while but then they just stop working Seroquel is only thing as of date that has worked I am wondering if I can cut the yellow tablet in half and if so will it still work as well to put me to sleep and decrease the drowsy feeling during the day

Hello,

Thank you for choosing DoctorSpring.

Your Doctor has prescribed Seroquel not only for your insomnia, but also to help you with the Bipolar illness. While reducing the dose might be a good option to decreased the drowsiness, the dose might be inadequate for the Bipolar treatment. Since you started the medication on Friday only you can wait for a week more. Most likely there will be some amount of tolerance and your sleepiness should disappear.

I would like to know whether you are on Seroquel or Seroquel XR (extended release preparation)

Hope this helps
