Hello. I'm a 28 year old female American traveling
in Cambodia and very scared so would really
appreciate any help. About a week ago I went
to a doctor complaining of stomach pains in the lower right
side and it was determined I had bacterial colitis.
After three days of antibiotics I was practically back
to normal. Today I suddenly started getting heart
palpitations and shakiness, followed by some mild dizziness
(I hesitate to call it that, but had some momentary vision
blurring and a general sense of being out of it). The feeling of
a fast, fluttering, very noticeable heartbeat has continued for about
8 hours now. My pulse has been between 85-98.
I also took a look at my blood test results from the week before
and noticed some high and low values that were never discussed
at the clinic with me. These are:
LYM% of 18.91
MID % of 17.26
MPV of 6.97 fl
and most concerning, P-LCR of 4.15%
Some additional info is that I smoke about
7-15 cigarettes a day and take birth control (Loestrin),
Malarone, Bupropion and Lamotrigine (the last
two for mild depression).
I'm really nervous and doubtful of the medical
system here. However, getting to Thailand or
Singapore is time consuming and expensive,
so I don't want to jump the gun. Any information
you can contribute would be so appreciated.

The complete blood report seems otherwise OK except for the minimal value changes in certain parameters. They are not of big concern probably related to your illness in the recent past. They will become normal in few days. P-LCR is a variable parameter and I am sure it would have come back to normalcy by now.
Otherwise I do not see any specific abnormality in your blood test. Hope your concern is addressed.

with these things, but in a foreign country with suvh
limited medical resources, I feel like I need to be more careful. My
only other question is regarding the palpitations and slightly
elevated heart rate-- I'm not sure what my pulse normally is
but close to 100 seems high. Especially with the
traveling, birth control and smoking, is this something I
should be worried about?
Hello.
Anxiety and smoking can be the cause of your high pulse rate. Though you were smoking earlier, being in a foreign country and with a health issue making you anxious, your heart ratel could has raised. A pulse less than 100 is alright and nothing to worry.
I would strongly advice you to quit smoking at least till you return back to US. Also make sure you stay well hydrated, with at least 2 liters of fluid consumption everyday.
