Change in flow, colour in periods for months. Cause?

Resolved question:
Over the last few months my periods have changed significantly. They flow has changed, the colour has changed and has a lot of brown colour blood and I feel very nauseous for the days leading upto and during my period.

They used to be really heavy from start to finish for 7 days with a lot of pain. Now they are lighter for a few days heavy for 2 and then lighter again. The pain is there on the heavy days. Sometimes it's hard to even stand up straight.

I would also like to get pregnant and we have been trying for the last year we no success. Is it all related?

Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
May I know what is your age ?
Since you have been trying to conceive for a year now, you should be having an evaluation for the same.
Yes, irregular cycles and the inability to conceive might be related.
You should consult a Specialist OB - GYN.
Please have an internal exam, Pap smear, pelvic transvaginal ultrasound scan and hormonal levels - FSH, LH, TSH, Prolactin, OGTT, DHEAS, Free testosterone.
You might be having endometriosis or a polyp etc, which might explain the painful periods and inability to conceive.
Please get your husband's semen analysis done too.
Go for follicular monitoring, which involves serial tracking of the egg follicle via ultrasound scan.
Please have the workup as that will reveal a diagnosis.
All the best
Please feel free to discuss further.

The reason I asked online as at present we are in Gambia and don't reallt have access to health care like that. When I had the small operation the specialist mentioned he thought he saw a small amount of endometriosis. So if this is the reason I cannot conceive is there anything I can do? There is a good pharmacy here where as long as you know what you want you can normally get it.
Oh and I am 33 but will be 34 next month.

Hello
I am sorry about the fact that you do not have access to proper healthcare.
Unfortunately, without proper confirmation of diagnosis, it is unwise to start treatment.
You may try oral contraceptive pills for 3 months to see is symptoms improve, and then try to start conceiving.
You really need to get the workup , it is essential.
