Drug test and confidentiality form, who can read it?

Resolved question:

A couple weeks ago I took a drug test and signed the confidentiality form saying only I could see the results. My doctor just called today and told me she had sent the results in the mail to me. I never got them. If my dad had opened the envelope and looked at the results, is that illegal for him to do and can I get him in trouble? She said that the envelope was addressed to my name and said "confidential" on it.

Thanks for asking a doctor s service from doctor spring. Confidentiality form is privacy of the reports enclosed that can be seen only by you. No other person is authorized to see it. This is a method of respecting the individual's medical information. There are numerous reasons for the confidentiality such as:

a)Encouraging the patient to talk about the medical condition he may have been suffering from.

b)Trust is built between the physician and the patient to help him deal with the situation.

c)Medical treatment for the same is not affected.

I would suggest you to wait a couple of days for the report. If you do suspect any other person like your dad has looked at the results then you could probably have a word with him regarding the privacy of the issue. Hope this helps. If their s any further queries feel free to ask.

 Thank you.
