Early symptoms of HIV infection

Resolved question:

Hey Doctor, I and a sex worker had an intercourse in the recent past. It was protected sex but I did oral on her. I got myself tested also and the result is negative but there is a sore throat which is creating a doubt? Is this HIV? Also tell me about genital herpes. I have seen some genital herpes pictures which were scary.

Thank you for your question. HIV is a deadly disease I must tell you. People who usually get infected by this disease do not develop any kind of symptoms. It is the case with many men. However, some people might have some sort of illness when they get exposed to such virus for the first time. This illness can last from a number of days to number of weeks depending upon the physically characteristics of the individual. Other common symptoms of HIV are headache, fever and tiredness which after lasting for few days go away. After this, the person might not suffer with any kind of symptoms and this phase might also for various years also. Hence, HIV is indeed harmful. However, you should not worry the symptoms that you are suggesting is not a common symptom of HIV. Also, you have got yourself tested which have showed you the result being negative. Hence, you should be relaxed. In case you are still in doubt then I would suggest you to undergo a test known as Western blot which acts would as a confirmation on whether you are infected with HIV or not. Talking of genital herpes, it is another highly dangerous sexually transmitted disease where people grow lumps and ulcers on the regions surrounding and also on the genitals parts. It might happen to both men and women. It is very painful as you must have witnessed in most of the genital herpes pictures. Their effect can be reduced by proper medication. God Bless.
