Pain under ribs with BACTERIAL GASTROENTERITIS.

Resolved question:
Hello,

I have a pain on my right side just under my ribs. I have had a weird pain for a little over a week in the same area along with bacterial gastroenteritis. I took my last antibiotic pill last night. I thought the pain was related to my illness, but now I'm better (I thought) and I still have the pain. It hurts when I touch it, but it's not excrutiating. I also ran a little for the first time in a couple months, so I thought maybe it's a pulled muscle from that...it hurt this morning when I was trying to pass stool.

Hello.
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com
I understand your concern.
Is it localised to the ribs area? Does it radiate anywhere? Does it radiate towards the middle of the abdomen?
It mostly seems like a muscle pull and can be attributed to running for the last 2 months.
I will advise you to avoid running for the next few days till your pain subsides and also use the following medicines. If the pain settles down after taking the medicines then there is no cause to worry.
1) Tab. Ibuprofen 400 mg twice daily for 3 days, after food.
2) Cap. Omeprazole 20 mg once daily before breakfast for 3 days.
The other possibility is costochondritis. Even that will be treated with the medicines i prescribed. In case of costochondritis, the pain will be through out the ribs area and hence i did not mention that as my first diagnosis.
Regards.
